The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company co-founder Bill T. Jones was my guest for a conversation on dance as an expression of social consciousness. Bill eloquently voiced his belief that his work in dance has often been a reflection of his passion for justice, and that dance, as an articulation of consciousness, must reflect the heart and mind of the choreographer and the dancer. Speaking with me at the Miller Theater on the campus of Columbia University, Bill and I were able to plumb his philosophy of dance and come away with a fuller understanding of the place of dance in social movements, in cultural expression, and in aesthetic consequence.
